Turn Off Comments for Links

Link building for blogs carries its own set of (sometimes odd) strategies and tactics. Graywolf and Problogger have both posted on how turning off comments on a blog ensures that it gets more links. I have to admit I find the whole thing a bit funny… because it really does work.

Another benefit of this tactic is that it removes the need to deal with comment spam :-)

One shouldn't forget that without comments, there is one reason less to re-visit an article once you have read it. So the number of returning visitors might go down.

I also think you need to be already "established" in the blogosphere. When nobody knows you, nobody will bother to write an article just to answer your post.

Although that's the benefit, you will loose user interaction with your posting. I think that's very important to know how users feel with how you write, and when to come back.

Cutting off interaction with your readers is fine if all you are looking to do is create "links". But I believe that a blog owner is trying to put forth a message, and without feedback the value of what is being done becomes guesswork. There is nothing like hard and fast criticism or a complement to let you know you are accomplishing your purpose in blogging.

There are very few who could pull this off, and if you are not one of them, you might find that your only audience is yourself.
